China Shipping Container Line (CSCL), as it celebrates its 10th anniversary, is rapidly expanding into an integrated logistics role and expects to become a giant in the field by 2010.
The Chinese shipping company said that it would take five initiatives to harmonise healthy, sustainable growth, according to a statement from the shipping line.
CSCL plans more profitable domestic and foreign trade services ahead and will increase domestic capacity to retain its leading position in the Chinese trading market, the statement said.
CSCL will also expand its fleet by adding eight 13,300 TEU containerships and together with its projected 180 vessels with a total capacity of 630,000 TEU.
Thirdly, CSCL will strengthen co-operation with other carriers and major shippers. Closer co-operation will also help expand CSCL network coverage, enlarge market share, increase service scope and reduce transit costs while forging better relations with shippers and forwarders.
Fourth, CSCL will boost container-related service development, including terminal operations, logistics and sea-rail intermodal transport.
CSCL will also retain its people-friendly human resources policy to continually improve staff relations and further business growth.
Established on October 28, 1997 in Shanghai, CSCL developed from a small carrier with five ships with an aggregate capacity 2,140 TEU to become a global shipping giant with 152 vessels of 450,000 TEU over 10 years, the statement said.
Statistics of AXSmarine show the CSCL has become the sixth largest container carrier in terms of capacity in the world.
CSCL now operates 74 foreign trade services covering 104 overseas ports, 17 domestic trade services covering 30 Chinese ports as well as a number of international and domestic feeder services.
The shipping line has 118 offices in 97 countries and regions, and 82 international agents. In China, CSCL has offices in 98 cities, creating an extensive intermodal transportation and service network across the country.
