Hong Kong port's marginal growth continued as it handled 2.04 million TEUs in October, up just 0.4 percent from the same period last year, according to the Port Development Council.
The port's throughput for the first 10 months of the year is up just 1.7 percent, with 19,705 million TEUs crossing its wharves since January.
Last year, Hong Kong's throughput was 23.5 million TEUs, up 4.1 percent over the previous year, but its direct export volumes are being steadily eroded by the busy Shenzhen ports that are closer to the factories and cheaper to use for exports.
