The Polish government accepted a strategy for the development of Polish seaports until 2015.
According to the Government Information Centre (CIR) the strategy includes the development of port infrastructure and the services they offer. It intends to improve cooperation between administration bodies, port managers and users, as well as raising the country's prestige in international transport network.
The improvement in port infrastructure will consist of modernising cargo terminals, including container terminals and ferry terminals, as well as distribution and logistic centres.
Investment is to be carried out to support passenger transport, primarily connected with ferry transport and leisure cruises. The government also opts for legislative work regarding the ports' ownership issues. The investment will receive government and EU subsidies amounting to over US$1.02 billion.
