Following the notice from the Ministry of Communications (MOC) People's Republic of China, posted on August 8, 2007, Schenker China Ltd (SCL) and MOC have jointly clarified the situation and are in the process of closing the case.
MOC has already updated its list of valid NVOCC operators on its website to include the licences for Schenker China Ltd in Shanghai and Ningbo.
MOC has confirmed valid NVOCC licences for Schenker China Ltd with licence MOC-NV02702, and Schenker China Ltd Ningbo branch with licence MOC-NV02703.
For other branches, MOC has also confirmed that Schenker can continue to carry out shipping operations and business agreements in China through its other legal entities - Schenker International (HK) Ltd and Schenker Logistics (Shanghai) Co Ltd, while other NVOCC licences for SCL are being issued.
All other operations of SCL, such as airfreight, warehousing and trucking, remain unaffected.
The ocean freight business for Schenker's customers in China has been carried out without interruption, and the company will continue to provide reliable ocean freight services from and to China.
Since the matter was brought to light, Schenker and the relevant authorities conducted joint investigations, which revealed that a recalcitrant individual employee had committed fraud against SCL by generating false documents and absconding with payments for licences.
These findings have been carefully checked by the police and MOC.
"As a global organisation with more than four thousand employees in China and more than forty years operating in the Greater China market, Schenker has always been resolute in providing professional services for customers, in compliance to all legal and business environments," the company said in a statement, adding that it is unfortunate that this matter occurred as a result of the unauthorised actions of an individual.
