China builds its biggest containership ever - 8,530 TEU
POSTED: 8:31 a.m. EDT, June 4,2007
Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding Co. Ltd, a subsidiary of China Shipbuilding Group Corporation, has built the biggest containership ever made in China, reported the Shanghai Daily News.

The 8,530-TEU vessel, puts China in fourth place among countries capable of building such ships after South Korea, Japan and Denmark.

With a loading capacity of 101,000 tons, the 334-metre ship only needs one helmsman and is equipped with four electricity generators. It is one of five same-size ships being built for China Shipping Container Lines.

Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding has orders to build four similar ships for Greek shipping company Costamare, said the Shanghai daily.
