Regulator turns down DPW THC hike
POSTED: 9:59 a.m. EDT, April 28,2007

The Tariff Authority for Major Ports (TAMP) has turned down a Dubai Ports World plea for a 11 per cent increase in terminal handling charges at its Chennai Container Terminal Ltd (CCTL), reported India's Business Standard.

TAMP, the tariff regulatory body, said there would be no tariff increase at CCTL until December 2008. CCTL earlier sought an 18 per cent increase.

The proposed increase was submitted after Dubai Ports' rival Port of Singapore Authority (PSA) together with Chennai's Sical Logistics, secured rights to a second container terminal project at Chennai.

Besides CCTL, Dubai Ports operates Nhava Sheva International Container Terminal (NSICT) at Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT), Mundra International Container Terminal (MICT) at Mundra (Gujarat), India Gateway Terminal (IGT) at Kochi Port and Vizag Container Terminal (VCTL) at Visakhapatnam Port.
