Northport was named the first recipient of the Corporate Excellence Award by the Institut Kelautan Malaysia, which cited the container terminal for its exemplary qualities in corporate and business governance, a company statement said.

The selection of Northport for the award follows the conferment in November last year by the Chartered Institute of Transport & Logistics (Malaysia Section) of the Transport Industry Achiever Award on Basheer Hassan Abdul Kader, Northport managing director and CEO.

The Corporate Excellence Award was presented at the recent anniversary dinner of the Malaysian Maritime Institute to Mr Basheer Hassan who commented that the award was a further reflection of Northport's commitment to good corporate governance.

"As a member company of NCB Holdings - our parent company that is listed on Bursa Malaysia - we apply very high and transparent standards in all our business processes. The pervasive application of IT in our operation is one of the mechanisms that promotes greater transparency and good governance," he said.
