Delhi airport expansion gets environment clearance
POSTED: 11:35 a.m. EDT, January 24,2007

Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL), the new company set up to restructure and modernise Delhi airport, has received environmental clearance from the Ministry of Environment and Forests.

In a statement, the company said that the clearance was issued based on the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) study that involved measurement of ambient air quality, water quality, soil characteristics and noise levels.

The study was carried out by the National Laboratory, which was commissioned immediately after DIAL signed the Operation, Maintenance and Development Agreement for the modernisation programme last April.

Meanwhile, the promoters undertaking the development and restructuring of Mumbai airport have said that during December last year, the airport handled 2.15 million passengers including 1.43 million domestic passengers and 7.2-lakh international passengers, which is the highest-ever monthly passenger capacity handled by any airport within the country.
