"K" Line Reports Damage to VLCC after Collision with US Submarine

Inspection by diver of the VLCC "Mogamigawa" resumed in the morning of January 10, reports "K" Line.

The following damages were found on the bottom of ballast tank No.5:
- approximately 3.5 m x 10 m of dent with 2 holes, approximately 20 cm x 10 cm and 40 cm x 20 cm respectively,
- approximately 2 m x 4 m of dent with 3 holes, approximately 10 cm x 5 cm, 10 cm x 5 cm and 20 cm x 10 cm respectively,
- approximately 2 m x 10 m of dent.

Also all propeller blade edges were found missing approximately 8 cm from tip.

All holes were plugged up by temporary repair and flooding into No.5 ballast tank was stopped. Consequently classification society ClassNK issued recommendations that she should arrive at the shipyard for permanent repair by February 9 after unloading cargo.

She sailed to Khor Fakkan, United Arab Emirates at 23:00 of January 10 local time and is bound for Singapore due on January 20.

The shipyard for permanent repair will be selected in due course.

VLCC "Mogamigawa" collided with submarine USS "Newport News" on January 8 after passing Strait of Hormuz.
