40 Air Condition-Only Buses Used for Emergency in Haikou
POSTED: 9:13 a.m. EDT, December 27,2006

Forty 9-meter long buses with air conditioning systems arrived in Haikou in southern China's Hainan province on December 24, 2006 to serve as a reserve transport system.

Forty nine-meter-long buses with air conditioning systems have arrived in Haikou in southern China's Hainan province, the first-ever fleet of reserved transport for contingencies.

The Hainan Daily reports these buses will not be used in the city's public transportation system, but for tackling emergencies that take place on any of the 48 bus routes in the city.

These special buses will also be dispatched to relieve pressure on the public transport system during holidays.

The Haikou Traffic Bureau has made a contingency plan to cope with serious situations that happen unexpectedly. The program stipulates reserve transport capacity should be used in order to restore normal traffic operations within an hour's time.
