SCT sets new productivity record
POSTED: 5:01 p.m. EDT, December 15,2006

SCT hit the highest vessel productivity on December 11th,2006. In operating MAERSK LINE’s MV. MAERSK SAIGON on service AE8, SCT handled 2009 containers within 7.16 hours, creating a new vessel productivity record of 280 moves per crane hour (MPH). This new record renovated the best one of 210.5 MPH when handling (PEX2) MV. METTE MAERSK on April 16, 2006. The crane rate also reached the historical height of 53.5 MPH.

To become the most preferred container terminal in South China, SCT is dedicated to offering customers professional, reliable, Initiative, durable and efficient (PRIDE) services via the continuous improvement and innovation of its overall efficiency and services. On the appraisal by Container Branch of the China Ports Association, SCT won three awards for the year 2005-2006: " Top 10 Container Terminals in China", " Excellent Container Terminal in China in terms of Vessel Rate" and " Excellent Container Terminal in China in terms of Development Potential ".The " Excellent Container Terminal in China in terms of Vessel Rate" is award for container terminals that achieve top level in terms of vessel rate. It is the first time SCT has won this awards, which demonstrates SCT has jumped to first level efficiency.

As is reported, SCT has recently introduced four new 40-foot tandem quay cranes (QC) from ZPMC. These equipments are the most advanced and largest in the world, capable of handling two 40-foot boxes or four 20-foot boxes simultaneously. With a lifting height of 43 meters above rail and a maximum outreach of 65 meters, and capacity under spreader of up to 100 tons, they can easily operate the largest containerships at SCT. Also as said that the operating efficiency of the most advanced QC is 20 to 30 percent higher than the traditional one, which will greatly further enhance SCT’s operational performance.
