PSA in line to operate Pakistan's new port
POSTED: 9:13 a.m. EDT, December 14,2006

AFTER submitting the highest bid in a tender, PSA International looks set to run Pakistan's port of Gwadar, writes Marcus Hand inSingapore.

PSA, with local partner AKD group, is reported to have beaten Pakistan International Container Terminal, the only other company that submitted a final bid.

DP World, Globe Marine Services of Saudi Arabia and Westports Malaysia all decided not to participate.

PSA's bid for the 40-year concession is still subject to final negotiations.

Gwadar port, built by a Chinese company, is 120 km east of the border with Iran close to the entrance of the Middle East Gulf.

It would represent PSA's first venture in Pakistan.
