Russia and China have finally agreed a gas supply deal worth hundreds of billion of dollars.
The two countries have been in talks over a deal for 10 years. But the deal between the Russian energy supplier, Gazprom, and China National Petroleum Corp (CNPC) has finally been agreed.
Although no official price has been given, the deal is believed to be worth around $400bn.
China is Russia's largest trading partner with trade between the two countries worth $90bn (£53bn) in 2013. The two countries plan to more than double that figure to $200bn within 10 years.
It is thought that Russia could supply China with 38 billion cubic metres of gas every year. That is equivalent to half of the UK's annual consumption. Analysts have said that roughly $30bn will need to be invested in infrastructure before the supply begins.
The deal was agreed in Shanghai on the second day of Russian President, Vladimir Putin's visit to China.
Energy Lawyer, Steven Beharrell, said: "This has been in the works for a long time and represents an unparalleled opportunity for Russia in China, and a major step forward for China's industrial ambitions."
