Manufacturer sets ambitious international growth plans

YORKSHIRE manufacturing business Kiveton Park Steel plans to propel its international growth.
The Sheffield-based manufacturer of steel bar and wire making products required in the automotive, aircraft and tooling industries, has been in family ownership since 1922. It currently exports 65% to 70% of what it manufacturers from its South Yorkshire site and plans to continue increasing this.
Kiveton Park Steel works predominantly in the automotive industry and supplies more than 100 different production lines in 15 different countries around the world, including mainland Europe, Mexico, Brazil, China, India and Hungary.
According to sales and marketing director, Michael Jones, the firm invests around £1m a year on manufacturing facilities. It has recently built a new Technical Centre on site, which it will be equipping over the next few months.
He said: "The future of the business is about extending our geographical reach and also expanding our products."
Jones said the firm also plans to tap into other industries like the oil and gas sector.
Kiveton Park Steel employs 140 people and the team is expanding.
Blue chip customers include TRW Automotive and Federal-Mogul, which has UK operations in Bradford.
The firm said that as it expands it exports, it is also growing its overseas agency network. It currently has five agents and plans to double this number.
"We need to have the resources for global expansion and that is why we have appointed a new international business development manager," Jones said.
According to the company's latest accounts, the business had a turnover of more than £23m to the year ended June 30 2013. Pre-tax profit came in at £305,346, slightly less than £360,978 in 2012.
