SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 13, 2014 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- The Central Federation of Societies of Commerce and Industry,Japan announced it will showcase quality craft goods at the upcoming San Francisco International Gift Fair February 15-18, 2014 (South Exhibit Hall C Booth:2219). The CFSCIJ is exhibiting at the SF Gift Fair as part of seven international trade shows, taking place from January to March, in the U.S., the U.K., Germany and France to introduce Japanese artisans and businesses overseas, during which more than 130 Japanese small businesses will have more than 300 products on display.

CFSCIJ, an economic organization that supports Japanese micro, small and medium sized businesses and their communities, developed the project, TAKUMI JAPAN. TAKUMI, which means artisans and craftsmen who have skilled technique in Japanese, is a part of a national initiative to support micro, small and medium businesses that are looking to expand their businesses overseas. In Japan, micro, small and medium-sized businesses currently account for 99.7 percent of companies in the country and make up roughly 70 percent of Japan's employment.
At each trade show, TAKUMI JAPAN will introduce not only the TAKUMI initiative, but also products from Japanese businesses that highlight Japanese tradition, technology, design and local origin. At the TAKUMI JAPAN booth, visitors can feel the spirit of 'monozukuri' (which translates to 'making things'), the technical precision, aesthetic, integrity and reliability is unique to these Japanese craftsmen.
In San Francisco, TAKUMI JAPAN will exhibit unique Japanese crafts. Over 100 craft items will be on display, highlighted by Urushi lacquered goods. Appreciated for its unparalleled deep hues and smoothness, Urushi lacquerware is considered one of the most distinguishing forms of Japanese beauty. Several special programs, performances and demonstrations will introduce the Japanese TAKUMI spirit with all attendees. Additionally, business matching and informational sessions for professional buyers will be available with TAKUMI JAPAN executives.
Other highlights include a demonstration by Nakani Co., Ltd., for using traditional Japanese Tenugui hand towels in fun ways, a showcase of professional nail care products by Maruto Hasegawa Kosakujo Inc., a weaving demonstration using fibers from natural igusa grass by Soejima Isao Shoten Co.,Ltd. and Marushin Material Co., Ltd. will demonstrate a flower arrangement using the unique HANA-ASOBI vase. Finally, a famous Japanese calligrapher, Naoki Sakaguchi, will have Japanese calligraphy performances held at the booth, writing Japanese characters on Japanese traditional paper.
