A CHINESE manufacturer of thermal transfer ribbons, which are used to make barcodes, is setting up its European headquarters in Manchester.
Todaytec is the latest signing to the city's enterprise zone around the airport, and follows a similar announcement earlier this week from the US coatings group Sherwin-Williams.
It is taking 7,000 sq ft at the Roundthorn Industrial Estate in Wythenshawe.
The office should open later this month employing a team of five which is expected to grow to 12.
Jack Liu, director of international business for Todaytec said: "Manchester is a great city, with excellent global connections. We have many clients in the UK and Europe, so it made sense for us to open our European operation here."
He added: "Manchester offers a low setup cost and possesses excellent infrastructure which includes a robust transport network, a strong business community and rich talent pool. Manchester Enterprise Zone is easy to access with very good quality facilities and a competitive price."
Todaytec was set up in Hangzhou 11 years ago and now exports to around 50 countries.
Gary Chambers, investment adviser at UK Trade & Investment, said: "UK Trade & Investment is pleased to have supported Todaytec in establishing its new UK operation. Through our UK First proposition, Investment Services were able to provide Todaytec with the assistance they required to make the right investment decision for their business. Together with MIDAS, we will continue to support the growth of the company."
