The Kerala Congress(M) district committee staged a march to the railway station in Thiruvalla on Monday in protest against the freight and rail fare hike.
Inaugurating the march, Victor T. Thomas, KC(M) district president, called upon the Union Government to withdraw the freight and rail fare hike with immediate effect.
72 trains passed by Thiruvalla station, but 12 trains did not have a stop there, despite its heavy passenger potential and repeated pleas from different quarters in this regard. Thiruvalla station is the alighting point for Sabarimala pilgrims, said Thoms.
The KC(M) leader called upon the Railways to sanction a brief stop for all trains at Thiruvalla, considering the importance of the pilgrim centre of Sabarimala.
Work on rail doubling on the Kottayam-Kayamkulam stretch should be completed in a time-bound manner, said Thomas.
