GERMANY's Federal Railway Authority (EBA) has issued an Authorisation to Place into Service for the multi-system variant of Siemens' Vectron electric locomotive.
The 200km/h locomotives have a nominal rating of up to 6.4MW and are capable of operating under 15kV and 25kV ac and 1.5kV and 3kV dc electrification systems.
The authorisation process covered the approval of additional functions including braking effort of up to 240kN and multiple operation using ZMS and ZDS control.
Siemens says certification of the Vectron MS is now underway in neighbouring countries including Austria.
The first customer for the Vectron MS is European Locomotive Leasing (ELL), which signed a framework order for up to 50 units in March.
