State Parliamentary Affairs and Higher Education Minister Partha Chatterjee said, the West Bengal Cabinet approved a INR 1,377 crore project for developing roads connecting countries with which the state shares international borders.
Briefing on the state cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Chatterjee said the decision was taken in view of widening and developing of roads connecting Bangladesh, Bhutan and Nepal, which are adjacent to the state to boost industry, tourism and employment generation in the region.
Chatterjee said that "The work of this project will start soon and completed at the earliest possible with development of two major roads - Jaigaon to Changrabandha (107 km) and Fulbari to Panitanki (43 km) under the direct supervision of state PWD."
Describing the project as a major one, North Bengal Development minister Goutam Deb, who was also present in the meeting, said it would change the scenario of the entire region, especially in north Bengal.
