The third rake of bogie low container (BLC) wagons manufactured by the Golden Rock Railway Workshop here for the Container Corporation of India (CONCOR) was flagged off at the workshop here on Friday.
BLC wagons are meant for transportation of big containers. CONCOR had placed an order with the Golden Rock Workshop in 2011 for manufacture of 1,000 container wagons estimated at INR 291 crore.
Two rakes of 90 wagons had been despatched from the workshop so far. CONCOR has placed another order valued at INR 365 crore, for supply of 1,000 more BLC wagons with the workshop.
The third rake, consisting of 45 wagons, was flagged off from the workshop by T. Kuppan, Chief Workshop Engineer, Southern Railway, in the presence of V.Selvam, Chief Workshop Manager, Golden Rock Workshop, and other officials.
A release from the workshop said, the wagons are provided with automatic twist locks to keep the container intact. The wagons are fitted with air brake system with automatic load sensing devices.
The workshop has so far completed orders for 3,820 containers wagons worth INR 850 crore, the release added.
