Swiss Eurobus Group expands fleet with the Setra ComfortClass 500
Eurobus, the largest private coach operator in Switzerland, has expanded its fleet with the addition of six touring coaches from the Setra ComfortClass 500. The three-axle S 516 HD models, each fitted with 49 seats, are to be deployed on long-distance tours throughout Europe.
For Martin Wuthrich, Setra-brand coaches have stood for "the measure of all things" for many years. Commenting at the handover ceremony for the six vehicles, which was held in front of the Eurobus travel centre opened in March, the Deputy Director of the Eurobus Group said: "The vehicles of the ComfortClass 500 represent a new era for our traditional business and will open up further prospects for our travel products."
Company management is impressed by high level of economic efficiency
In his opinion, the overall package bundled in with this innovative model series by Setra makes for a very attractive prospect for several reasons: "In addition to the most beautiful design and the latest technology and equipment currently available in the bus sector, above all we were impressed by the proven reduction in fuel consumption, and therefore lower environmental burden, the very high economic efficiency and also the best safety standards." Eurobus currently deploys some 60 coaches and relies on having a modern fleet at all times. Coaches are replaced with the latest models after a period of seven years at the latest.
The S 516 HD models from the ComfortClass 500 are fitted with all the latest safety systems currently available in the sector and offered by the Setra brand.
State-of-the-art comfort for price-conscious passengers
The Eurobus range of holidays includes tours as well as theme-based and activity excursions. The company is the only one in Switzerland to divide its products into three categories - namely Comfort, Deluxe and Premium - similar to the airline industry. Both the coaches themselves as well as other service features, such as accommodation, meals and tour management, are characterised in this way. With 240 regular service buses, touring coaches and minibuses, the Eurobus Group also operates on regular public routes in eight locations throughout the German-speaking area of Switzerland.
The group of companies was taken over in 1992 by the Knecht Group, Switzerland's fourth largest tour operator which has enjoyed a close association with Setra for a number of decades. The roots of the partnership date back as far as the very beginnings of the brand. The coach operator Knecht in Windisch took delivery of the first Setra coach to be sold in the Swiss Confederation, in the guise of an S 8 from the model series 10, as early as 1953.
