The Central Railway (CR) which is being criticized for the delay in providing first aid treatment for the accident victims have asked for better ambulance services.
Officials from CR informed that the control room received the information about the incident 20 minutes after the accident.
According to the protocol the medical relief vans are likely to leave for the site of the accident with 15 minutes of the receiving the information. There are two vans in the city which are rail bound while one medical van is situated in the city the other van is in Kalyan which was sent to the accident spot.
"In any given situation the Medical Relief Van is like to take two hours to reach the accident spot. The relief van cannot live without doctors and are attached to a main railway hospital." Sunil Kumar Sood said.
"There is a need for better ambulances which can ferry eight to ten patients at a time with proper ventilation facility. These patients can be taken to hospitals directly other than taking to primary health-care," the railway officials said.
Referring to the primary treatment of the victims Sood said, "There needs to air ambulances which can instantly take the patience to the hospitals."
