Sources said that the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has said it would award 7,000 kilometer (km) of road projects in the current financial mainly on engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) mode, keeping in mind EPC's success previous year.
Sources in the Ministry said that 5,000 km would be awarded by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the remaining 2,000 km would be undertaken through various National Highway Development Programmes and schemes run by the government.
Various challenges such as delays in green clearances, land acquisition, pending streamlining of delayed projects and the overall economic slowdown had hit the road sector, sources pointed out.
The Ministry would think about awarding projects under build-operate-transfer (BOT), depending on the response of developers, according to sources.
