China's rail freight up 1.7pc

China's rail freight posted 1.7 per cent year-on-year growth in 2013 to 3.96 billion tonnes with the turnover volume rising 0.2 per cent to 2.9 trillion tones per kilometer, while its rail passenger volume surged 10.8 per cent, reports Inhaul.
National railway cargo volume declined 0.3 per cent to 3.21 billion tones. The turnover fell 1.1 per cent to 2.67 trillion tones per kilometer.
Coal volume increased 2.7 per cent to 2.32 billion tones. Grain went up 5.4 per cent to 110 million tonnes. Petroleum rose 0.8 per cent to 139 million tonnes, while chemical fertilisers and pesticides dropped six per cent to 87 million tonnes.
