Eastern Railway (ER) has set a record in freight volume by loading 62.558 million tonnes (mt) in 2013-14, which was 3.73 % higher than the previous year. This was stated by R K Gupta, General Manager (GM), ER.
Speaking on the occasion of the 59th Railway week, Gupta, highlighted the performance of Eastern Railway during 2013-14.
Gupta said that ER earned INR 2043.80 crore from originating passenger traffic and INR 4838.09 crore from originating freight loading in 2013-14 and focused on plans and targets to be achieved during the current financial year, 2014-15.
Earlier, ER observed the 59th Railway Week by organizing a zonal function at Dr. BC Roy Auditorium, Sealdah, Kolkata on May 17, 2014, where Gupta, awarded shields and cups to different divisions and stations as well as individual and group awards to railway employees for commendable performance during 2013-14.
A total of 101 railway employees, including 80 staff and 21 officers, as well as, 15 groups were awarded on this occasion. As a mark of recognition of the meritorious services during 2013-14, Asansol division won the coveted GM Eastern Railway's Overall Efficiency Shield for its overall performance.
Efficiency Runners Up cup was given to Howrah Division while Sealdah and Malda divisions won the Punctuality Shield.
The Best Kept Station cup was awarded jointly to Howrah and Durgapur stations and the Cleanliness Drive Shield was given to Howrah division.
