With the completion of the balance highway of 15 kilometer (km) of Hungund-Hospet road project on National Highway (NH) 13, GMR OSE Hungund Hospet Highways has commenced collection at toll plaza 3.
The project commenced collection of toll at Toll Plaza 3 with effect from May 14 and it is likely to generate additional revenue of about INR 10 lakh per day.
The Hungud Hospet highway is part of NH-13 connecting Sholapur in Maharashtra and Mangalore in Karnataka and provides connectivity between the mineral rich and highly industrialised districts of Karnataka and the rest of India.
The project has earlier achieved commercial operation of 2 Toll Plazas in November 2012 and has now finished the balance highway after land clearances.
BVN Rao, Business Chairman, Urban Infra & Highways of GMR Group, expressed: "The Project Highway caters to the iron ore mining heavy commercial traffic from Bellary region and also links the local industry with Mangalore and Karwar ports for export. The completion of the project is expected to give stimulus to the local steel, fertilizer and chemical industries. This project will also boost the tourism to Hampi, Kishkindha, Bellary Fort Badami etc. The corridor shall play a vital role in the economic development of the region."
