Sino-Russian cross-border railway bridge commences construction

The railway bridge over Heilongjiang River, the country border of China and Russia, has commenced construction.
The railway bridge spans from China's Tongjiang city in northeastern province Heilongjiang to Russia's Jewish Autonomous Oblast Nizhneleninskoye, 30 kilometres of the railway is inside China. The main bridge is 2,215 metres and 1,900 metres are in China.
China is to invest a total of CNY2.64 billion (US$429 million) on the bridge, which will have an annual cargo capacity of 21 million tonnes. Construction will last two years and a half.
This is first railway bridge on the Sino-Russian border. It will connect the railway network in China and Russia together and forge closer economic cooperation ties between northeast China and Far East Russian, according to Shipping Gazette.
