ANTWERP-based Safmarine has introduced an application on the Android operating system for customers mobile devices to access schedules by location and tracking applications following launch last April on the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch devices.
This new application can be downloaded free of charge from the Android Market (https://market.android.com/search?q=safmarine&c=apps), said Safmarine e-business manager Benoit Lebrun.
"Android has become an increasingly popular platform for many of the mobile devices used by our customers and the launch of this new application will further improve our customers' access and experience with Safmarine by making it even easier for our customers to do business with us, no matter where they are," Mr Lebrun said.
The new application allows Safmarine customers to look up sailing schedules, track containers or consignments (using a booking or container number), find contact details for Safmarine offices and receive Safmarine news updates. An "alert" option has also been added, which "pushes" the information directly to the user's device.
The success of the service through its availability to all major mobile systems and smart phones, including but not limited to: Blackberry, iPhone, Symbian, Windows Mobile and Android has been confirmed by growing usage of the mobile website, http://m.safmarine.com
