Spanish budget airline clickair has started flying between Gatwick and Vigo in northern Spain. The flights are the first direct air link between London and SpainĄ¯s Pontevedra province in South Galicia.
The flights operate each Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday on an Airbus A320. The airline predicts it will carry 60,000 passengers on the route, its sixth Spanish service from the UK, in its first year of operation. It already flies from Gatwick to Seville and Bilbao, Heathrow to Valencia and La Coruna, also in the Galicia region, and from Edinburgh to Barcelona.
Vigo is known for its historic buildings and fortifications and active port which supports much of the city's industry. Its airport, Peinador, has recently undergone significant infrastructure improvements in anticipation of the new service. |
