More roadworks near Luton Airport

2008-6-3

A section of the A505 between Hitchin and Luton - an important route for traffic to Luton Airport - is to close at night for road works from tonight, the Comet reports.

The scheme to improve the condition of Beech Hill and Offley Hill will see patching work done between 19:00 and 06:00 for one week. Surface dressing will be done during the day in August - the exact date will be weather dependent and will be confirmed nearer the time.

Beech Hill works will be done under a convoy system to allow traffic to bypass works, however, there will be a speed limit of 10mph. Offley Hill will be closed. The main diversion route is via Offley bypass, Beech Hill, Lilley Bottom, Hollybush Hill and Luton Road. Side roads will only be closed at their junctions with the A505 and there will be signed diversion routes

County councillor Stuart Pile, executive member for highways, transport and rural affairs, told the newspaper: 'With a busy road like the A505, which is an important route for traffic to Luton Airport, it is vital that we keep the road well maintained. We aim to complete these works with the least possible disruption to road users, which is why the work is being done in two phases, with the bulk of the work taking place overnight.'
