Emergency landing for Virgin Gatwick flight

2008-6-2

A Virgin Atlantic flight heading for Gatwick Airport made an emergency landing on Friday after the plane developed mechanical problems. The plane landed at Grantley Adams International Airport on Barbados at around 18:00.

An airport spokesman said that the aircraft developed mechanical problems and was forced to land in Barbados on its way from Antigua to Gatwick. He said it landed safely around 18:15 with 'a couple hundred passengers on board'.

The passengers and crew disembarked the plane normally and were taken to a hotel near the airport whilst the plane was repaired. Reports suggest that they suffered a 24 hour delay.
