New terminal for Polzug

2008-6-25

Polzug Intermodal GmbH, the equal shares joint venture of DB, PKP and HHLA, has opened a new rail terminal in Wroclaw, Poland's fifth largest city, to serve a burgeoning market in consumer electronics and the automotive industry.

"Reliable state of the art transport services are a pre-requisite for successful production," said Walter Schulze-Freyberg, CEO of Polzug Intermodal. "We are pleased to now offer our 45,000 m2 enlarged and most modern facility in our system right here in Wroclaw."

The city is a cluster for the consumer electronic and automotive sector companies such as LG (Phillips), Toshiba, Electrolux, Whirlpool and Toyota.

The expanded terminal will offer daily connections to and from Hamburg, Bremerhaven and Rotterdam.

With double-digit growth in recent years, Polzug carried some 145,000 TEU in 2007 to and from Poland, Central and Eastern Europe, the CIS and Russia and even into Afghanistan and beyond.

"A key element of our success," continued Schulze-Freyberg, "is the Polzug-operated terminal infrastructure in Poland, which allows us to control the transport chain from the hub port to final destination."

The terminal has four tracks and storage capacity is 2200 TEU. It is equipped with four reach stackers and two cranes and two shunters.

The range of services includes customs clearance, customs agents, container sweeping, reefer connections and container repair. On request, Polzug can also offer the escorting of high value market goods and security labeling and sealing
