Development of WiMAX data transfer systems are expected to ramp up in remote parts of Indonesia.
WiMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access) allows the transfer of data using multiple methods including point-to-point and full mobile cellular access and is suitable for remote areas.
The Indonesian government has not appointed a local provider although Jakarta-based telecommunications company PT Solusindo Kreasi Pratama, is able to produce a WiMAX device.
The mobile device, called TRG, has been tested and the company expects it will be ready to launch next year.
A company spokesman says there is potential to use of the technology in the e-health, e-learning and e-government sectors.
Two Jakarta hospitals are using the system and two more are expected to have it in place by July.
In addition, 10 more hospitals are are expected to have it in place by the end of 2008.
Only about 5 percent of Indonesian hospitals have computerised services and just 3 percent have integrated IT systems. |
