2008-6-12

Pondok Cabe air base in Tangerang (near Jakarta) is about to be re-developed as an alternative to Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, for low cost airlines.

Currently, the air base is controlled by PT Pertamina, the Indonesian state oil company.

The Pondok Cabe air base occupies 116 hectares and boasts a 2,200m runway.

According to Bisnis Indonesia newspaper, Australian Aviation Agency Pty Ltd has indicated it is ready to invest US$150 million for the project.

The re-developing project includes extending the length of runway to be 2,500m, expanding the parking area and establishing an aviation school, hotel and catering centre.
