Ryanair to ground 20 planes this winter

2008-5-26

Ryanair is expected to reveal plans this week to mothball at least 20 of its Boeing 737-800 airplanes this winter as soaring fuel costs make routes uneconomic.

The budget airline told an investor briefing last month it planned to take 20 planes out of commission - nearly three times the number it mothballed last year. However, there is speculation this weekend that record fuel prices could see a number much higher.

Ryanair is expected to reveal the plans when it reports its annual results on Tuesday.
