Shanghai port April volume up 9pc, Yangshan terminal soars 42pc

SHANGHAI International Port Group (SIPG), the operator of Shanghai Port, handled 2.4 million TEU in April, up 9 per cent year on year, Logistics Week reported.

The group's overall cargo tonnage in this month went 9.7 per cent up to 33.2 million tonnes. Foreign trade cargo increased 10.4 per cent to 22 million tonnes. The newer Yangshan port area lifted 670,000 TEU, a surge of 42.6 per cent.



During the first four months, SIPG's cumulative container volume increased 11.4 per cent year on year to 9.01 million TEU. Overall cargo tonnage increased 9.1 per cent to 122 million tonnes.



In this period, the group's foreign trade cargo rose 11.7 per cent to 82 million tonnes. Yangshan port area's container volume soared 47.3 per cent to 2.49 million TEU.
