JADE Cargo International has officially been appointed to carry humanitarian aid material on behalf of the Government of China and the Government of Myanmar.
The cargo carrier embarked on China's first humanitarian flight since the devastating cyclone hit Myanmar on May 7. A chartered Boeing 747-400ER Freighter was loaded with aid material including tents, covers and food for needy Myanmar residents that was flown from Beijing to Yangon.
The aircraft landed in Yangon after a four-hour flight, where the national social welfare minister and the Chinese ambassador to Myanmar were on hand to receive the aid personally at the airport.
According to the Chinese government's humanitarian programme for Myanmar further relief flights with Jade Cargo International as the operator are planned, a company statement said. Two further relief flights were operated to Myanmar on May 9 and 10.
Li Kun, the board chairman of Jade Cargo International, said: "We are completely competent for such kind of humanitarian assignment. This shows the recognition not only from the Chinese government and also from the Civil Aviation Authority of China. Through this humanitarian activity, the reputation of Jade Cargo International will be enhanced."
Captain Kay Kratky, the chief executive officer of Jade Cargo International, added: "The entire Jade Cargo team supports the relief efforts. In times of such large sufferings caused by the devastating cyclone, non-bureaucratic and fast help for the people of Myanmar is essential."
