Kuwait's International Airport will be refurbished in the near future said chairman of Civil Aviation Department Fawaz Al-Farah. New security equipment worth KD 176 million will also be installed, as part of the up gradation process.
Al-Farrah said that mounting air traffic congestion needs to be tackled immediately. The number of passengers has risen to a staggering 7 million in a year. He expected the figures to rise during the current and next year.
In order to cater to this requirement, the Department is planning to overhaul airport's infrastructure. He criticized its set-routine which interrupts construction work. He indicated that new projects include establishing a third runway, developing existing ones and establishing new terminals for passengers, reported Al-Qabas.
It will have the capacity to accommodate up to 20 million passengers per year. He added that lack of adequate reinforcements forced qualified employees to quit the aviation field.
