AIRPORT Authority Hong Kong, has announced unaudited revenue of HK$4,199 million and profit attributable to equity shareholder of $1,136 million for the six months ended 30 September, 2007, increases of 10.1 per cent and 14.4 per cent respectively, from the corresponding period in 2006.
Cargo volumes grew 5.8 per cent, to 1.88 million tonnes; and air traffic movements increased 6.0 per cent, to 149,030.
Stanley Hui, chief executive officer of Airport Authority Hong Kong, said: ¡°After a lacklustre first quarter, we saw solid increases in cargo throughput from April to September. Strong and sustained economic growth on the mainland and in Hong Kong generated demand for aviation services. And with continued steady growth in passenger volumes, Hong Kong International Airport will soon serve more than 50 million passengers per year.¡±
To meet this demand and reinforce Hong Kong¡¯s position as a premier regional and international aviation hub, the Airport Authority is investing HK$4.5 billion to expand and enhance the infrastructure and services at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA). Some HK$1.5 billion has been earmarked for Terminal 1, while the remainder has been allocated to the airfield. Ten additional cargo stands are being added and a new passenger terminal, Terminal 2 (T2), opened in June.
Connectivity with the Pearl River Delta (PRD) was also enhanced. A new ferry service between HKIA and Jiuzhou Port in Zhuhai was inaugurated, bringing the number of PRD ports with direct ferry links to HKIA to six.
