FedEx Corp. subsidiary FedEx Express will add 10 hybrid electric/diesel vans to its European fleet.
The additional hybrids will bring FedEx's total number of hybrid vehicles to more than 100 in North America, Asia and Europe. These 10 will be the first used in Europe, the company stated in a release.
The vans are manufactured by Italian automaker Iveco and will be used on a trial basis around Iveco's manufacturing plant in Turin, Italy.
The Daily Hybrid van will be unveiled at the European Road Transport Show in Amsterdam later this month.
Iveco and FedEx worked to develop a new diesel-electric hybrid vehicle over the last two years, said Stefano Sterpone, senior vice president, Iveco sales and marketing.
FedEx Express introduced its first hybrids in 2004, the FedEx OptiFleet E700.
FedEx Express is the delivery arm of FedEx Corp. , which is based in Memphis.
