Interview with Magnus Omeife, the manager director of Madexoom Services Limited in Nigeria

2010-5-4

JCtrans: Would you please make a brief introduction about your company?

Magnus Omeife: We are licensed Customs Agents with authority/Network to operate in all the government approved seaport and international airports in Nigeria. Our services are shipping, clearing and forwarding (customs clearance), freighting, haulage and warehousing. Armed with experienced and qualified members of staff, we guarantee quick and safe delivery of your consignment. We are representing some of the reputed NVOCCs, which enable us to undertake shipments from any part of the world to Nigeria and back.

JCtrans: Would you please talk about your service, because we all know service is very important to a forwarder?

Magnus Omeife: We have qualified and experienced personnel in our marketing, documentation and operations departments, who are highly capable of providing the best and prompt service to our customers. We give a lot of emphasis on keeping our customers advised with movement of their shipments so that they are well aware of the progress in their shipments. Also wherever possible we suggest to our customers ways and means to save cost, as our approach to customers is like a partner in the business, which could be for our mutual benefit.

JCtrans: In China, when busy season comes, some ship company will throw some containers out, as a freight forwarder this situation seems very difficult to handle. Have you come across this case?

Magnus Omeife: Yes in all courtiers this situation exists. In busy seasons, there are too many cargos in ship. And shipping companies could not bear so many loads. They will throw some containers out of the ship. But I have not come across this problem yet. We should take the responsibility to our customers¡¯ cargo. We have a very good relationship with shipping lines. And they would not throw our containers out of the ship.

JCtrans: Would you please talk about the free time for the containers in your country?

Magnus Omeife: Free days for containers are a concerned problem to all freight forwarders. Because short time free days may bring losses for our customers. In my country Nigeria, We have 7 days free time for containers. I think it is better than China. As I know, most shipping companies just give 5 days free time for containers. We also apply for our customers more days. Because this may help them prepare fund and avoid unnecessary losses.

JCtrans: To explore your overseas business I think you have tried many ways, have you taken part in some logistic exhibition such as Fiata events and so on, what do you think of it?

Magnus Omeife: The main way for us to explore the customers is through telephone and website. Our sales always telephone some potential customers and to ask if they have any requiry. And we also join some web such as JCtrans. They will offer us some resources. Until now we still not attend any exhibitions. But I have a plan to enlarge our company scale and prepare to explore our business in many ways. So I hope we could take part in some exhibitions this year.

JCtrans: In China, except for career, many people pay more attention to their family, how do you deal with the relationship between your business and your family?

Magnus Omeife: I think this is also very important in our country. I am often very busy in working. So I seldom have time to stay with my families. But I bring them to outside when I have time. So I think my work have not affected my family.
