2010-1-4

Elvis C. Nwuju, the CEO of Flying Eagle Shipping Ltd with offices across West Africa, graduated from the famous University of Lagos, Nigeria, major in Accountancy. He has worked for Flying Eagle more than 18 years. And recently, JCtrans has a chance to make an interview with him.

JCtrans: Elvis, glad that I have chance to make an interview with you, first would you please make a brief introduction about your company?

Elvis: Flying Eagle Shipping Limited is a customs licensed agent, established in 1990. Now the offices has been spread West Africa. We offer highly professional and personalized service to our customers. Our service include door to door delivery service, clearing customers of both the Sea and Airports in Nigeria, freight booking and trading, international trade consultancy.

JCtrans: In China most of forwarding companies were affected by financial crisis seriously, so some of them took the policy of price war. In your country if this situation also exists?

Elvis: In our country and the West Africa where our offices located, we have not found this phenomenon. I think the main reason is raised by lacking of the supervision of government. Malign competition lead the whole market in chaos. In Nigeria, government has made integrated laws and regulations to supervise logistics enterprises. So also in bad economic phenomenon, price war has not occurred.

JCtrans: Many reports say the economy turns better, and the business has being better, what do you think of this opinion?

Elvis: We have not found a decided change for our business. But a false appearance makes us feel that the business is better than before in our country. The so called blue chip companies which offer debts turn up. How do they work? For example, when your capital is blocked, and your partner keep putting you under pressure. You could borrow from these companies, but the interest is very high. You should pay 3 or 4 times money to them when the deadline is coming. Many business men still use these companies when they come across problems.

JCtrans: Now many logistic forwarding companies want to find some overseas agents to make a cooperation to gain two-win, how about your company?

Elvis: A very strong strength lies in the power of partnership. Partnership among freight forwarders could boost the trading between two countries. And both of the partners could get more chances of business. Our company also pays more attention to partnership. And we joined many organizations to recognize more and more partners, such as your JCtrans.

JCtrans: How do you develop your foreign market? How do you serve them?

Elvis: Foreign market is a very important part to our company. We spend a lot of money on developing international market, for example, we take part in some conferences and join some association. In this way, we recognize many customers. And different customers from different countries have different characters. You know even clients from the same village can never be the same character. We serve them according to their like and dislike, which make us own a lot of clients now.
