The 2nd International Tanker Shipping Summit 2010

2010-4-26

Event Background

The global shipping market has been hit severely since the start of the financial crisis. Oil tanker market was also affected by shrinking demand and surplus shipping capacities, which brought about lots of challenges to ship owners. The global economy gradually recovers in 2010, and the demand for petroleum begins to increase. In view of the possible large scale release of new ships and high oil prices, global shipping market is unlikely to fully recover in 2010. In general, the market will be better than in 2009 but the outlook could not be upbeat.

The root causes are too many new ships and weak demand. The delivery of new ships is the key. If more new ships entered into the market, the utilization of oil tankers would be lower. Therefore, the market will not fully recover until the actual demand for crude oil increase. However, global petroleum demand is expected to growth at 1.5-2, 0% in 2010, so the shipping capacities in oil tanker market will still be surplus.

The 2nd International Oil Tanker Shipping Market Summit 2010 will be held during June 24-25. The event will attract over 100 decision-makers of companies in major petroleum import and export countries, including America, Europe, OECD Pacific, China, Other Asia, Subtotal Asia, FSU, Middle East, Africa and Latin America. They will discuss the development trend of oil tanker market, seek for new business opportunities and strengthen cooperation at this event!

This summit attracted major oil shippers, ship owners and shipping agents from mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, Singapore, Thailand, UAE, the United States and so on. They made in-depth discussions on international oil and tanker shipping market, opportunities and challenges, and tried to find a win-win solution based on mutual understanding and benefit.

Against the background of the rally of international crude oil prices and the overcapacity of global tanker shipping market, most players showed concern on issues like: the future tendency of international oil prices, BDTI direction, and the balance of global tanker shipping capacity and freight rate, and domestic fuel oil and oil products market fundamentals.
