number of students dropped in Macao

The number of Macao's students stood at 107,325 in regular education at the end of the 2005/2006 school year, a year-on-year decrease of one percent, according to official statistics issued on Tuesday.

The figures from the government-run Statistics and Census Service (SCS) showed that 91,398 students were enrolled in non-tertiary education while 15,927 higher education courses.

In the 2005/2006 school year, 135 schools and other institutions provided with regular education, the figures showed.

Meanwhile, the number of teachers engaged in regular education totaled 6,073 at the end of the school year, a year-on-year rise of 1.9 percent, according to the statistics.

The region has a population of 500,800.
