Nepali Hotel workers to get 10 percent service charge
POSTED: 0:03 p.m. EDT, January 1,2007

Nepali workers in hotel will be getting 10 percent service charge from new year 2007, the local Kantipur daily reported.

The decision was taken as per the understanding between the Hotel Association of Nepal (HAN) and four trade unions of the country.

"The workers will get service charge for serving food, beverages, health club and decoration services initially," said Prakash Shrestha, president of the Hotel Association of Nepal.

About 200,000 workers will be benefited from this service charge. The Nepal Trade Union Congress (NTUC), the NTUC ( Democratic), the General Federation of Trade Union, and the All Nepal Trade Union Federation (Revolutionary) jointly singed the agreement.

The Hotel entrepreneurs had refused to provide service charge five years ago on the grounds that the number of tourists arrivals was low at that time due to conflict.
