Earthquakes in Taiwan Disrupt Internet Access in Malaysia
POSTED: 1:03 p.m. EDT, December 28,2006

Malaysian netizens on Wednesday experienced some delay while getting access to overseas Internet websites after international links were disrupted by earthquakes in China's Taiwan.

Internet service provider TM Net said the earthquake has caused a fault on Asia Pacific Cable Network 2 submarine cable.

The disruption has caused outages to several TM Net international transit and peering links, the TM Net said Wednesday in a statement.

As a result, Internet users in Malaysia and other parts of Asiamay be experiencing some delay when assessing content and websites hosted outside of Malaysia, especially in the United States, Japan, China, South Korea and Europe, it said.

The international providers are carrying out immediate restoration works to rectify the problem, the company said.
