Both Protect Data's board and Monterro Holding (largest shareholder with over 10 pct) support Check Point's offer and encourage shareholders to act upon it, as acceptance from over 90pct of shareholders is needed.
Protect Data owns Pointsec Mobile Technologies, which was targeted by Check Point.
Gil Shwed, Check Point's CEO: "With businesses facing increasingly severe consequences from data breaches and a stricter regulatory environment, it is apparent that protection must extend beyond the infrastructure to the data itself."
Martin Bjaringer, chairman of Protect Data's board:
"After an evaluation process of the strategic alternatives for the company, both our board of directors and I believe this opportunity represents the best strategy for Protect Data, its customers, shareholders and employees."
Pointsec focuses on mobile device security, offering automatic data encryption solutions for mobile devices. Sensitive company information can be found stored on laptops, PDAs, and smartphones, so companies need solutions to minimize risk, protect confidential data and information assets.
