Diplomatic corps concern about security situation in Nepal
POSTED: 11:44 a.m. EDT, June 3,2007
KATHMANDU, June 2 (Xinhua) -- The diplomatic corps in Nepal is deeply concerned by an upsurge in recent weeks of security incidents that have threatened foreign diplomats or impeded their work in the country, a statement from the United States Embassy said Saturday.

"We condemn any and all attempts to harm, threaten, or interfere with foreign diplomats working in Nepal," the statement said.

Targeting or threatening diplomats in Nepal on their countries' official business is unacceptable, it said.

The diplomatic corps urges all political groups and activists to respect customary norms and reject violence or intimidation.

"We also remind the government of Nepal of its role to ensure security and safety for diplomats," the statement added.

Embassies in agreement with this statement are including the United States, France, Germany, India, Japan, Malaysia, Pakistan, Denmark, Israel, Australia, South Korea, Thailand, Britain, Bangladesh and Finland.
