German President Horst Koehler arrived in the Chinese capital Wednesday night to continue his four-day China trip.
Invited by Chinese President Hu Jintao, Koehler arrived in Kunming, capital of southwest China's Yunnan Province on Wednesday morning, starting his first-ever state visit to China as German president.
Governor of Yunnan Province Qin Guangrong met with him at the airport.Later he visited a local solar power station and a museum.
During his stay in Beijing, Koehler is expected to hold talks with Hu, and meet with Premier Wen Jiabao and Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Jia Qinglin.
Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu said Tuesday Koehler's China visit is a "very important" one as it coincides with the 35th anniversary of the establishment of China-Germany diplomatic ties.
