Insurgents have burned down a school and a child care center Saturday night in Thailand's trouble-plagued southern province of Yala, the Thai News Agency reported Sunday.
Leading a group of task force soldiers, Yala province officials Sunday morning inspected the two-story school in Bannang Sata district which was burned to the ground by suspected insurgent militants Saturday night.
The attackers also threw metal spikes on the road to prevent soldiers from hunting them.
A nearby child care center was also burned.
Violence has plagued Thailand's three southernmost provinces -- Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat on an almost daily basis following a raid on an army base and munitions depot in Narathiwat in January 2004.
The Thai military has imposed curfew in Bannang Sata and Yaha districts after insurgents stepped up their attacks.
